Six signs that your kidneys are in trouble.

1. Metallic Taste in the Mouth:

When the kidneys aren’t filtering waste properly, toxins like urea build up in the blood and can cause a metallic or ammonia-like taste in the mouth. This may also lead to bad breath and loss of appetite.

2. Frequent Urination at Night:

A damaged kidney loses its ability to concentrate urine, causing you to urinate more often, especially at night (a condition known as nocturia). It may also come with urgency or a weak stream.

3. Swelling Around the Body:

Your kidneys help remove excess salt and water from the body. When they fail, fluid accumulates, causing puffiness especially in the legs, feet, face, and around the eyes.

4. Ammonia Breath:

Also called "uremic fetor," this is a strong, unpleasant odor similar to urine or ammonia, caused by the accumulation of urea in saliva due to poor kidney filtration.

5. All White Nails (Terry’s Nails):

Pale or white nail beds may signal chronic kidney disease, possibly due to low levels of protein or iron, and poor blood circulation.

6. Foamy Urine:

Excessive bubbles in your urine, especially if persistent, can be a sign of protein leakage (proteinuria), which often indicates kidney damage.

Please Note: If you notice more than one of these symptoms, it’s advisable to do a kidney function test and consult a doctor immediately. Early detection can save your kidneys.
